Oklahoma City, OK – November 28, 2023
In a heartwarming celebration of community impact, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits (OKCNP) hosted its annual Visions Awards at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum on Giving Tuesday, November 28.
The Visions Awards recognize individuals in the Oklahoma nonprofit sector who have been agents of change in their communities through impressive leadership, dedication and work.
Gail Lapidus, surrounded by many friends, family, staff, board members, supporters, and community partners, was profoundly touched as she graciously accepted the illustrious Pat Potts Visionary Award from none other than the philanthropic luminary, Pat Potts, herself. The award, bearing the name of the esteemed benefactor, recognizes individuals who have not just demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication but have woven an indelible thread of impact within their communities.
Among the other distinguished honorees were Chris Bernard, recipient of the Rodney Bivens Innovation Award; Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, Bill Anoatubby, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award; Jacqueline Young, recognized with the Inasmuch Special Recognition Award; Tricia Everest, honored with the Shirley Shanker Volunteer Award; and Edie Roodman, presented with the President’s Award.
Marnie Taylor, President, and CEO of OKCNP, highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating, “This was an incredible Oklahoma retirement party for Gail, given its proximity to her retirement.”
In her acceptance speech, Gail Lapidus expressed profound gratitude and emphasized the collaborative nature of the award. She shared, “This award extends beyond personal achievements; it stands as a testament to the collective efforts of countless individuals who govern and work at F&CS and others who support, fund, and partner with us to bring to fruition our commitment to take bold actions.”
Lapidus went on to acknowledge the pillars of her personal and professional life, starting with her husband, Les. “I express my deepest gratitude to my husband, Les, whose unwavering love, support, and a delicious dinner every night have been the cornerstone of my career at F&CS for nearly 50 years.”
Her appreciation extended to her family, forming an invaluable circle of joy and connection, especially her grandchildren, who inspire her commitment to making the world a better place for the generations to come.
Lapidus also recognized her friends and close colleagues, emphasizing the importance of surrounding oneself with those who contribute to life’s enjoyment. She stated, “During my long career, I learned that the only thing more important than liking what you do is liking the people you’re doing it with.”
A heartfelt tribute was reserved for her leadership team, whose dedication she described as an honor and privilege. She concluded with gratitude to the board members who had selflessly given their time and counsel during her remarkable 38-year tenure as CEO.
