Family & Children’s Services is the place to turn for help when parents live apart. We make difficult life transitions easier for you and your children. During our Helping Children Cope with Divorce seminar, you’ll learn how to:

  • Facilitate visitation.
  • Manage conflict.
  • Use effective parenting skills.
  • Avoid pitfalls and problems.
  • Assess if your child is having trouble.
  • Cope with financial obligations.
  • Make changes in the family structure easier for your child.
  • Understand children’s typical reactions, by developmental age, to divorce and change.
  • Talk to your child about divorce and relationship ending.

CLASS INFORMATION

  • FEES

    • Pre-registration or online registration: $55 per person
    • Replacement certificate: $5
    • Rescheduling fee: $20

  • OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS

    • Do not bring children with you to the seminar.
    • Arrive early and receive credit for attendance. Persons arriving late are not admitted, do not receive credit and are asked to reschedule. No exceptions.
    • Interpreter services are available for hearing-impaired individuals.
    • Each participant will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the seminar.
    • This seminar is required for parties involved in any lawsuit involved custody, paternity, visitation or support of a minor child in these nine counties: Tulsa, Rogers, Wagoner, Mayes, Pawnee, Washington, Osage, Craig and Nowata.

VIRTUAL CLASS

Becoming a parent is a life-changing event, and life as a parent keeps changing too. This four-week program:

  • Covers the first five years of parenting, from birth up to age 5.
  • Contains a session dedicated to school readiness and parent engagement.
  • Includes topics about temperament, mindfulness, brain development, self-calming and special needs.

VIRTUAL CLASS

Good family relationships and lots of positive attention are just what your child needs to learn and grow. In this six-week program, parents of 5- to 12-year-olds learn:

  • How to build cooperation.
  • Effective discipline.
  • Logical consequences.
  • How to teach responsibility.

VIRTUAL CLASS

Home life and family relationships are still the biggest influences on a teen’s development. In this six-week program, parents of children 13 and older learn about:

  • Teens and technology.
  • The latest in teen drug use prevention.
  • Teen bullying.
  • How brain development affects teen behavior and decision making.
  • Discipline and communication.
  • Teen sexuality issues.

VIRTUAL CLASS

Your relationship with your partner may have ended, but it’s in your children’s best interests for you both to be involved in their lives. In this six-week class, parents (one or both) learn:

  • Strategies for cooperative parenting.
  • How to maintain important family relationships.
  • Communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • How to create safe and supportive environments in two homes.

During this two-session, interactive, web-based course, you’ll learn how to handle high conflict situations with your co-parent and develop new skills to help you:

  • Resolve conflicts.
  • Improve communication.
  • Let go of the past relationship.
  • Keep your focus on the kids.

At Family & Children’s Services, you’ll find positive solutions to life’s most difficult challenges. Our classes will help you learn effective strategies, acquire new skills and develop techniques to improve parenting and relationships.

Scholarship funding is available on a limited basis for all classes. To register for a class or receive more information, please email fle@fcsok.org.

  • Classes are not held on major holidays.
  • Do not bring children to the class.
  • Use of cell phones in class is prohibited.
  • You may begin at any time during an ongoing class, although we encourage you to start at the beginning of a series.
  • You must sign in each week or your attendance will not be counted.
  • Attend the classes in succession. If you miss a session, it will be six to eight weeks before the topic is offered again.
  • If you have not attended class for six months, you will be required to start again.
  • Make-up classes are not offered.
  • Certificates of Completion are awarded when the entire series is completed.
  • There is a fee for duplicate certificates at $10 per sheet.
  • F&CS does not participate in any litigation or provide reports to the courts or any other entity for workshop attendees.
