Why did you first get involved with F&CS?
In 2015, Ted Haynes, the president of BCBSOK, was the chair of the Tulsa Area United Way campaign and he made it a point to visit all 64 agencies and invited other folks from BCBSOK to attend with him. I made several of the visits and F&CS was one of them. I was somewhat familiar with F&CS but had no idea of the wide reach of services offered to those folks who are most vulnerable in our community. I was so impressed by their work in our community and knew then this was an agency I wanted to support. I have been on the board for just over a year and continue to be amazed by the work being done to make Tulsa a better community.
What about F&CS’s mission and work inspires you?
The focus on treating and healing the whole family: While I am inspired by all of the F&CS programs, one that stands out is Women in Recovery. I have heard multiple women tell their stories and have seen firsthand how this program truly turned their life around.

Why did you first get involved with F&CS?
What attracted me to F&CS is as summarized in the name of the organization, ‘Family & Children’s Services’.
Maintaining and strengthening families, keeping families together is one of the most important things for the adults in a family, but more importantly the children in a family. Growing up in a stable family is one of the most important factors in maturing to assure success in the future with success measured in a number of ways.
What about F&CS’s mission and work inspires you?
The Leadership of F&CS and the Board are very focused on making a difference, one child at a time, one adult at a time, and for those who have no other place to turn. These are often individuals who are shunned with no one to care for them and no one to care about them. We are to help others and as a Board member I feel through F&CS, through fantastic leadership and staff, we are making a difference.
