Picture the delight of a deserving child receiving a bicycle during this season of giving. Cycling enhances physical health and contributes to a child’s cognitive development and mental wellbeing.
This year’s annual contribution from the Tulsa Bike Club, Two Men and a Truck, and the Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation has brought joy to many. With 240 bicycles donated to children from the Child Abuse and Trauma Services program, the Early Childhood Program, School-Based services, and the Women in Recovery program, all Family & Children’s Services initiatives.
“Family & Children’s Services (FCS) is so fortunate and appreciative of this annual gift of bicycles for our children’s programs for the past 16 years,” said Tom Taylor, FCS Chief Development Officer. “So many of the families we serve fall under the federal poverty guidelines, so this gift made possible by the Tulsa Bike Club and the generosity of the Sanford and Irene Burnstein Family Foundation and delivered by Two Men and a Truck literally is transformational for the children during the holidays. It makes our season to see this in action, and we are all so very appreciative of these groups sharing these gifts with those whom we serve.”
Over the past 17 years, Tulsa Bike Club, Two Men and a Truck, and The Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation, among others, have generously donated over 3,300 bicycles to children under the care of Family & Children’s Services.
“The Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation has been honored to be a long-time supporter of the Bike Club Holiday Bike Give-A-Way in partnership with Humble Sons Bike Co. and Family & Children’s Services,” said Elizabeth Hall, Senior Program Director, Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation.
“The Burnstein Family Foundation believes in the power of supporting equitable recreational access and the freedom, joy, learning, and agency a bike can provide to a child.”
The Tulsa Bike Club provides children with access to bicycles and operates an after-school cycling program in Tulsa area schools. Upon completion of their year-round training, the Tulsa Bike Club gifts a bicycle to each child in the program.
