“She calmed me down and was so kind. She gave me some information and resources that I needed. I felt so much better after calling.”

I have struggled with depression, anxiety and ADHD since I can remember. Normally, I can control and manage my mental illnesses. However, the day my husband left my son and I, is the day my world fell apart. I couldn’t function without him. The change was so sudden I did not have time to process this life-altering news. I started neglecting my job, family, friends and even my son. I would retreat to my room and stay there for days. One day, a friend mentioned Family & Children’s Services. I took a long hard look at my current state and realized it was time for a change. My son deserved a mother that was present and nurturing. I began counseling and was put on the correct medications to help manage my illnesses. Family & Children’s Services changed my life. The counseling services helped me process the divorce and all the feelings attached to it. I worked harder to be there for my son, I made sure I was involved in his school work, friends and taking care of him. One of the many great things about Family & Children’s Services is how affordable it is to get help. I was able to get the help I needed on a single parent budget. I am thankful for my friends and family for sticking by my side, for Family & Children’s Services for providing life-changing services and of course, I thank my son most of all for loving me through the hard times.

Having been homeless for the past two months, Family & Children’s Services has been the one light in my life that gives me hope of turning my life around in a positive way. It hasn’t been easy since turning 18 and having to fend for myself. If services such as the ones provided by F&CS didn’t exist, I would not have hope, a reason to change or a reason to keep fighting for a better life. Family & Children’s Services reaches out to assist other mentally ill homeless individuals like myself. They offer mental health care, substance abuse treatment and resources to housing and other community outreach programs. I am thankful to be alive and Family & Children’s Services has helped makes sure I stay that way.

My Name is Adam. Before Family & Children’s Services, my mind was consumed by frustration, deep depression and constant worrying. After I began therapy, my whole world changed. My weekly sessions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy have helped me make progress toward a better life. I am learning to manage my depression so that it does not consume my life. F&CS has helped awaken and encourage my dream to become a writer. I seek a healthy mind, which is just as important as a healthy body. Without Family and Children’s Services, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am forever grateful for their constant love and support. Family & Children’s Services is truly life-changing.
