TULSA, Okla. — Family & Children’s Services was one of several Tulsa nonprofits to earn social innovation grants from the Tulsa Area United Way this week.

Outrage misplaced in famed lion’s death, F&CS therapists say

The recent death of a lion in Africa at the hands of a Minnesota dentist brought an outpouring of grief, anger and calls for greater efforts to fight trophy hunting.

That furor over Cecil the Lion’s death in July resounded in a traditional and social media firestorm. It even prompted public statements from celebrities expressing outrage over the hunt that led to the death, eventually culminating in the dentist, Dr. Walter Palmer, temporarily closing his office in August.

Oklahoma Department of Human Services lauds F&CS child support program

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma Department of Human Services honored Family & Children’s Services this week with a State Coordinator’s Award for its efforts helping parents stay connected to their children after divorce or an ended relationship.

DHS praised F&CS’ Parent Connections program, which F&CS contracts with DHS to provide, as the model for the state, crediting it with numerous advancements among its Child Support Services clients in the Tulsa area.
