F&CS Mental Health Services
"Family
& Children's Services has taken 75 years of experience
in community-based services and expanded that base to encompass
mental health care. With the founding of F&CS Mental Health
Care, our agency now provides human services across the full
spectrum."
- - Gail Lapidus, Executive Director
F&CS
Mental Health Care provides a range of mental health services
including outpatient therapy, case management, medication
clinics, day services for adults, mobile crisis services,
specialized homeless services, outpatient substance abuse
services, and children's services. F&CS Mental Health
Services include:
Screening
and Assessment - Individuals
in need of mental health services are identified through a
central intake process to determine appropriate service needs
and referrals to appropriate facilities. Comprehensive assessments
are administered to those individuals admitted for mental
health services and encompass the following aspects: behavioral,
emotional, physical, social, recreational and vocational needs
of the individual.
COPES
and COPES for Kids - A major component
of the emergency service delivery system is Community Outreach,
Psychiatric and Emergency Services (COPES). This telephone
and mobile crisis unit provides psychiatric emergency services
24/7 to Tulsa County children and adults.
Co-Occurring
Programs - F&CS offers mental health
services to individuals with co-occurring mental illness and
substance abuse. While these two issues were once treated
separately, today's best-practice treatment is to approach
mental health and addiction together.
Counseling
Services - F&CS provides
professional counseling including group therapy, day services,
individual therapy and home visitation to individuals, children,
families and married couples.
Substance
Abuse Services - Outpatient services
for adults with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse
disorders will be provided. Individuals that require more
restrictive levels of care will be referred to facilities
that provided the needed care.
Case
Management Services - These services
are community and strength-based and include client centered
resource skills development, rehabilitation services, linkage
and advocacy.
Psychiatric
Services - Individuals in need
of psychiatric hospitalization are screened by F&CS Mental
Health Care staff prior to admission at a psychiatric facility
operated by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance
Abuse Services. F&CS Mental Health Care maintains a liaison
relationship with the local Tulsa ODMHSAS inpatient hospital
and crisis center.
Medication
Management - Medication services
are provided to those individuals in need of medication to
improve psychiatric symptoms. An F&CS board-certified
psychiatrist prescribes and then evaluates the effectiveness
of medication.
Pharmacy
Services - F&CS Mental Health
Care has an on-site pharmacy to provide medication, at no
cost to the client, for those individuals in need of medication
to reduce psychiatric symptoms. In addition, applications
to indigent medication programs shall be extensively utilized.
Services to the Homeless
- F&CS Mental Health Care maintains a satellite location
at the Salvation Army, which is in close proximity to the
Day Center for the Homeless. A variety of services are provided
to the homeless. These include but are not limited to: case
management, medication services and counseling services. F&CS
Mental Health Care maintains liaison services with various
community agencies that provide services to the homeless.
Children's Services - Our children's
services provide a combination of treatment and prevention.
The treatment module includes: case management; individual,
group and family therapy and play therapy. Prevention services
focus on parenting education for at-risk families, linkage
and education within school systems to facilitate identification
of individuals in need of services through the Oklahoma Department
of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and family
support activities.
Jail
Diversion Program - F&CS provides Jail
Diversion services in collaboration with the Tulsa County
Board of County Commissioners , the Tulsa County Division
of Court Services and Tulsa County Sheriff's Department. Jail
diversion programs help move non-violent offenders suffering
from mental illness from the criminal justice system into
appropriate mental health treatment. The program has four
components: training and education for law enforcement personnel
to prevent the unnecessary arrest of the mentally ill; additional
staff for the F&CS mobile crisis team, COPES, that works
with law enforcement personnel to provide on-site psychiatric
stabilization evaluations; a court liaison position that “walks”
non-violent, mentally ill offenders through the system; and
jail-based case management services to assist the mentally
ill who are incarcerated, with a focus on women substance
abusers.
PACT
Team - The Program of Assertive Community
Treatment is an integrated service delivery system to treat
homeless adults with co-occurring mental health and substance
abuse disorders. The PACT program will serve homeless persons
in Tulsa County.
Nurseline
- Family & Children's Services
Mental Health Care consumers can call a 24-hour voicemail
line to report negative reactions to prescriptions and to
request refills. Nurses are also on staff to check vital signs,
give injections when needed, and to help assess the effectiveness
of prescribed medication.
Psycho-Social
Rehabilitation Services (PSR) - In
order to alleviate and prevent relapse of symptoms associated
with a mental illness, our PSR services aim to provide a sense
of community and purpose through skill-building groups, socialization
and recreation opportunities. Topics taught include stress
reduction, computer literacy, communication and coping skills.
