Family Sexual Abuse Treatment Program

"The biggest thing is I now have a voice. The word incest does not come easy, but it can now be spoken and written. Because of the agency, the group and you, I can speak, I can go on. My despair started ending the day we started working together. Without the group, I would not be where I am today. I can now say I am a survivor, no longer a victim."
- An adult survivor of incest

Family & Children's Services offers the most comprehensive treatment program in Northeastern Oklahoma for children who have been sexually abused and their families.

Children who have been sexually abused can recover from the trauma of being victimized, physically hurt and emotionally harmed. These children need a safe, therapeutic environment to talk about the abuse, and their many strong feelings of hurt, anger, fear, aloneness and betrayal.

Crisis Intervention - Therapists provide 24-hour intervention services to families who are in crisis.

Prompt Intake Services - Incoming families and child victims are immediately provided with intake appointments to begin processing family issues and promote healing.

Individual and Family Therapy - Child and adolescent victims, siblings, as well as non-offending relatives, are provided assessments and ongoing specialized counseling services.

Play Therapy - Our therapists interact with young children who have been abused to heal and establish positive relationships, improve communication skills and build self-esteem.

Families Interacting in New Directions (FIND) - Using hands-on techniques, therapists coach non-offending parents to interact with their sexually abused children in loving ways that promote positive behavior and communication.

Parent Education Groups - Parents participate in groups designed to provide them with understanding and tools to effectively parent their children through the healing process and beyond.

Group Therapy for Children and Teens - Our therapists provide group therapy to abused teens and school-age children to augment the healing process.

Prevention Groups for Siblings - Therapists work with siblings of abused children to help them identify and understand potential warning signs and to strengthen self-esteem.

School-based Services - Our staff provides programs and presentations designed to educate schools, parents, and children regarding child sexual abuse and prevention measures.

Professional Training and Consultation - We provide specialized training for professionals and consultation for organizations such as the Department of Human Services and Tulsa Public Schools.

Other Prevention Programs - Our staff provides programs and presentations designed to educate the community regarding child sexual abuse and prevention measures.

Adolescent Sex Offender Treatment Program - Adolescent offenders receive individual assessments and group treatment to prevent sexually exploitative behavior and develop socially appropriate behaviors, and promote the safety of victims and the community at large. Caregivers also attend a parent/caregiver group to understand the dynamics of sexual abuse and needs of the youth.

Service Locations
On-site services at the Tulsa County Department of Human Services, in Claremore, at the Tulsa Boys' Home, and in the Laura Dester Shelter allow FSATP staff to intervene as quickly as possible after a disclosure of sexual abuse is made. Comprehensive services are then provided on an ongoing basis at the Central Office of Family & Children's Services. In-home play and verbal therapy is offered for children in foster care who cannot come to the agency because of transportation difficulties.
