Family & Children’s Services (F&CS) announced winners of the 19th annual poster contest during an awards ceremony at Family & Children’s Services Central Office on November 16, 2011. Students, kindergarten through 12th grade, were asked to illustrate what “Today’s Family” means to them. Winners received ribbons and cash awards.

“Family & Children’s Services is committed to and provides a wide array of programs and services designed to strengthen families,” said Gail Lapidus, chief executive officer of F&CS. “The annual poster contest is an opportunity for students to express their unique perspective about families in a fun and creative way.”

Ken Busby, executive director of the Arts & Humanities Council, presented the awards. This year, F&CS received 1,454 entries from students at more than 62 schools in the Tulsa metropolitan area. Fifty-nine students received awards in the following categories; Best in Show; Kindergarten and First Grades; Second and Third Grades; Fourth and Fifth Grades; Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grades; Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Grades.

The Best in Show award went to Taylor DePetris of Victory Christian School. Other winners included:

The agency restores children’s well-being, heals victims of abuse, strengthens individuals and families, and provides hope and recovery for adults suffering from mental illness and addictions. Today, its life-changing services help one in six Tulsans.

F&CS is a member agency of the Tulsa Area United Way and Rogers County United Way. F&CS is also a member of the following national organizations: Mental Health Corporations of America and the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare. Family & Children’s Services is certified as a community mental health center by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and is accredited by the COA.
